Leonisa A. Artes, PHTRC extension specialist, lectured on proper postharvest handling of vegetables at the farm and during market operation, storage, transport, and retail before 28 participants from different areas of the country last February 19 in Bulacan. Aspiring to be vegetable growers, the attendees included seafarers and overseas Filipino workers on vacation. It was also participated by the newly hired staff of East-West Seed Company, farm workers and manager, and retired staff members.

The lecture was part of a vegetable training course from production to marketing which the East-West Seed Company conducts in line with its VeggiEskwela, a year-round vegetable production training.

Partnering with industry through training, expert service, and information dissemination is in keeping with the PHTRC’s efforts to respond to the needs of the Philippine horticulture industry towards its mission of modernizing and enhancing the industry’s global competitiveness through postharvest systems development and improvement.
