The PHTRC library’s Information Literacy Program (ILP) was conducted last September 5-7 at the PHTRC library in partnership with the CAFS Library Committee chaired by Dr. Evalour T. Aspuria. Two sessions were conducted, every 9:00-10:00AM and 3:00-4:00PM daily, for three days. Topics discussed were literature search using the various databases subscribed by the university library, management of references using the desktop and web program “Mendeley,” bibliography and citation tools, and the use of plagiarism prevention service “Turnitin.” Initiated by the university library in 2012, the ILP in the UPLB libraries is held every semester during the months of February and September. The ILP aims to equip library users with information skills useful in locating and accessing library resources related to their information needs. Moreover, it serves as an avenue to promote the various services of the UPLB libraries. To support the university library’s literacy goals, unit libraries such as those of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources, College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, and College of Veterinary Medicine later started conducting ILP sessions in their respective colleges. As the university library marks its 13th ILP, the PHTRC library’s first ILP was conducted this year. Resource speakers were Nirvana G. Ramos and Jeanybeth D. Casa, college librarians assigned at the PHTRC library. The CAFS Library Committee members who facilitated the sessions were Dr. Aspuria (ICropS), Randolph N. Candano (NCPC), and Dr. Gina V. Pangga (ASI). Rowena I. Lit and John Paolo M. Opulencia (staff from the reading rooms of IFST and IWEP, respectively) provided assistance during the sessions. (NG Ramos)
